PRE-SEASON TRAINING
The 2012 season officially starts in just a few short weeks. With the excitement of a new coach, a premiership team from last year and our new colts team we should see plenty of numbers on our first night and throughout the pre-season.
Monday January 23rd is when training will start. Be ready to go at 6pm and bring your runners and boots.
RESERVES GRAND FINAL
Swan Valley reserves caused a major upset on Sep 10 when they knocked off their highly fancied rivals by 7 points to claim the clubs first grand final victory since 2005.
Dianella-Morley went in to the game raging favourites after finishing 2nd on the ladder and winning 2 straight games to go through to the GF. In the qualifying final DM put The Valley to the sword to the tune of 13 goals and then dispatched East Fremantle in the 2nd Semi by about 4 goals to enter their 5th straight grand final and a well deserved favourtism to win.
Ric Ellard chatted to the boys on Thursday night about what its like to win a GF and left the following message "the best ones are the ones you're not expected to win". The lads obviously listened and from the outset were ready to play!
SV came out of the blocks kicking the first couple goals before DM worked their way back in. Danny Notte had the ball on a string with Morgan Rose feeding him endlessly. DM kicked a couple late goals but SV were up by a couple points at quarter time.
DM came out firing in the 2nd and it just happened to conincide with Morgs going down in the ruck and giving ascendency to DM. A few changes saw Haydn Cooney go in to the ruck which exposed the backline and Bobsy took a few marks and converting. By the end of the 2nd quarter SV were now 2 points down.
Another ruck change at half time saw club stalwart Jesse Bill try his luck in the ruck. This allowed Cooney to go back to full back and try to steady a backline under heavy siege. The change up worked well with JB turning back the clock 20 years to have a tremendous 3rd quarter easily holding his own in the ruck. DM kicked out to a 3 goal lead with only 5 mins to go in the 3rd before SV gained momentum. They'd worked hard to stem the flow and things were looking grim before some late goals to Steven Vigar and Garry Venema saw scores even up at 3/4 time and SV had the run.
The 4th quarter was about taking chances. Valley started the quarter with Michael Notte in the ruck needing someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck. The ball barely went past either halfback line as the teams gave it their all to try and win. Viges had been pretty quiet but stepped up when it was needed to kick one of the few goals for the quarter and put Valley a goal up with a few mins left. JB again playing well put the ball through for a point to seal the win.
Kurt Pommeroy was named Best on Ground to cap off a great day for The Valley.
